PATIENTS suffering from severe mental health problems will benefit from extra psychiatric intensive care beds at Fieldhead Hospital.
Improved facilities at the Ouchthorpe Lane site will open on Monday and include new bedroom and en-suite bathrooms.

The psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) is for people who are in a very disturbed phase of a serious mental health disorder and are often compulsorily detained for their own safety in secure conditions.

Gillian Green, South West Yorkshire Mental Health NHS Trust's assistant director for adult services, said: "Psychiatric intensive care is an important aspect of the NHS care we are able to offer people and it works closely with other NHS community and in-patient mental health services, including the Bretton Centre, a low-security inpatient unit, which opened earlier this month on the Fieldhead site."
