RECORD GCSE results had young people in Wakefield jumping for joy yesterday.
The number of pupils achieving five or more A* to C grades was well above the national average of 65.7 per cent at most of the city's schools, with more pupils than ever before getting good grades in maths and English.

click hereCathedral School saw 44 per cent of pupils achieve five or more A* to C grades, with 32 per cent including English and maths.
It was reason to celebrate as the Thornes Road school had been told in June it could face closure if its maths and English grades did not improve after only 23 per cent of pupils got good grades last year.
Headteacher Paul West said: "Our hard-working students, highly professional staff and supportive parents at the school deserve their successes."
Outwood Grange Technology College celebrated its best results ever, with 96 per cent of pupils achieving five or more A* to C grades and 66 per cent including maths and English.
Jubilations continued at Crofton School where 62 per cent of pupils achieved five or more top grades, including English and maths – which had an 80 per cent pass rate.
St Thomas a Becket School saw 75 per cent of its pupils get five or more grade A* to C, with 62 per cent getting five or more good grades, including maths and English.
Horbury School celebrated record results, with 69 per cent of pupils getting five or more A* to C grades, and 52 per cent including maths and English.
At Wakefield City High School 71 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades with 53 per cent including the important core subjects.
And at Freeston Business and Enterprise College 60 per cent of pupils got five or more A* to C grades, with 48 per cent including maths and English.
Kettlethorpe High School saw 68 per cent achieve five or more top grades and 47 per cent including maths and English.
Ossett School bettered last year's results, with 75 per cent of pupils getting five or more A* to C grades and 69 per cent including English and maths.
At Wakefield Girls' High School 92 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades, including maths and English. At Silcoates School a 100 per cent pass rate was recorded in maths and English and 68 per cent of pupils at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School got A* or A grades.
