HULL - Wakefield Wildcats' Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final opponents - have been fined £100,000 for fielding an ineligible player in previous rounds.

Hull received the punishment - £40,000 of which has been suspended for 12 months - for playing Jamie Thackery in two games against Rochdale and Widnes before he was placed on the club's cup roster.

Thackery re-signed for Hull from Leeds after the initial March 3, 2008, deadline. The East Yorkshire club has seven days to appeal.

Hull could have been expelled from the competition after the Rugby Football League found the club guilty of a breach of its rules and described the matter as 'very serious'.

Wakefield Wildcats and Hull meet in the Challenge Cup semi-final at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium on July 27 for a place in the final against either Leeds or St Helens at Wembley. The sides meet in Super League this coming Saturday at Belle Vue, kick-off 6pm.
