RECORD numbers of rhubarb lovers descended on Wakefield for this year's annual festival.

Organisers said they were certain that visitor numbers topped last year's figure of 90,000.
Independent traders from around Yorkshire and beyond came to showcase the best in locally sourced and produced food.
Janet Oldroyd-Hulme, of Oldroyds Farm, Rothwell, couldn't get to the festival because she was guiding tourists around her family's world-famous rhubarb sheds.
She said: "From the feedback we have had it was the best festival ever.
"People have come from all over the country and that means people stopping in local hotels and eating in local restaurants."
Mrs Oldroyd-Hulme said her only complaint was that the festival wasn't long enough.
Coun Clive Hudson, Wakefield's cabinet member for culture, tourism and sport, said: "This event was bigger than ever and proved to be hugely popular. We were so successful that the marquee where the cookery demonstrations were taking place was full to capacity and we had to stop people coming in on several occasions."
For the first time Wakefield Council teamed up with regional food group Deliciouslyorkshire.
Jonathan Knight, chief executive of the group, said: "This was a really good show for us, with tremendous enthusiasm for fresh local produce and a prime location for our marquees."
