REGGAE and rock are helping to put the fun into learning at schools across the district.
Demotivation, fear of failure, behaviour and relationships are just some of the issues being tackled with the help of the SEAL Songs in Action initiative.
Wakefield was one of twenty-five authorities invited to pilot the government's Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) programme in 2004, which is designed to teach children the key personal, social and emotional skills needed to manage life and learn successfully.
But two years ago Melanie Barber, the city's primary strategy consultant for SEAL decided to take it one step further based on the idea that children learn best when they take part in something enjoyable and memorable.
The 45-year-old penned a whole host of songs with the help of Geraldine Gaunt, the council's music adviser and Phil Needham, advisory teacher for music, which have proved to be such a hit with youngsters that the scheme has gone national.
