Welcome to a bomb site

I think Wakefield Council has got a nerve putting up Christmas lights saying 'Welcome to Wakefield'.

Wherever you go in Wakefield there are areas boarded off, the entrance to The Ridings, the Bull Ring and where the market used to be.
There are piles of rubbish everywhere and the city looks more like a bomb site.
There are banners saying 'Wakefield in Bloom'. The raised shrub and flower beds have been destroyed to make way for a fountain.
How long before it is filled with filth and rubbish?
There was nothing wrong with the Bull Ring. Queen Victoria should come back and haunt them for moving her so often.
There are so many empty shops and then we have the miserable-looking market hall.
Unity Hall is boarded up and surely it could be turned into a sports centre.
Who will want to come to Wakefield?

Thornes Moor Avenue, Wakefield

I believe our council is making a huge mistake to go ahead with such major works at a time when financial chaos seems to be consuming so many small shops and businesses.

If traders can not keep going while these works are completed then what is the point of building more shops and offices if there is no one to fill them ?
